Tainted Love

The most famous rendition of the song "Tainted Love" was by 80s new wave group Soft Cell. But it wasn't the original. In fact, the original version of "Tainted Love" was a 60s R&B song by the singer Gloria Jones.

Of course, my favorite version comes off of the soundtrack to a movie I unironically love, Not Another Teen Movie. The soundtrack is filled with 80s covers, and as Marilyn Manson explains in the DVD extras (which I have watched multiple times), the song has a certain cynicism that stands out among the usual saccharine songs of that decade. Here is the NSFW version of the video.

To bring it all the way back to the song's R&B roots, here's LA's own La Santa Cecilia.
